Between 2015 and 2019, Apple used a "butterfly" key mechanism that is famously unreliable. Because the mechanism sits so flat, a single speck of dust can make a key stick, repeat, or stop working entirely — and it often comes back even after cleaning. If your MacBook Pro (2016–2019) or MacBook Air (2018–2019) has repeating or dead keys, this is almost always the cause.
The reliable fix is replacement rather than cleaning. We replace the faulty keyboard so your keys work properly again. Because these keyboards are built into the top case, this is usually a top-case replacement — we'll confirm exactly what your model needs during the free diagnosis.
Not every keyboard problem needs a full replacement. If a single keycap has popped off or cracked and the mechanism underneath is fine, we can often fit a single keycap — quick and inexpensive. If several keys fail, the mechanism is damaged, or it's a butterfly fault, a full keyboard replacement is the lasting fix.
On many modern MacBooks the keyboard is part of the top-case assembly (which also holds the battery), so a "keyboard replacement" means replacing that assembly. It sounds bigger than it is — we'll explain the options and quote clearly before doing anything.
